DAY TRIP UPDATE 4 June 2008

Water levels are not yet high enough to bring the Wenonah into service. Day trips will be Fridays only aboard the Voyageur II. If and when the water levels increase to provide sufficient depth the Wenonah will return to service. Updates and changes will be posted here.

Lake Superior Water Levels And The Impact On The Wenonah

As was widely publicized last year, Lake Superior water levels reached an all time low. This has left Grand Portage Bay too shallow for the Wenonah to safely navigate. October 2007 brought heavy rains to the area and lake levels increased 8 inches. We have good snow cover this winter and are hopeful with a good runoff and spring rains the lake will rise further. However, with current levels and uncertainty of the future, reservations will not be available for the Wenonah at this time. While we realize this will create schedule planning challenges for some, advance reservations on a boat that is unavailable would have a much more adverse impact on travel plans. This leaves us with the Voyageur II for now, plan and book early as trips in late July/early August will fill quickly.

If the lake levels increase significantly and we are able to bring the Wenonah home to Grand Portage, the trips will resume. That decision will be announced here in early June.

Day Trip Information

For those interested in Day Trips, we will be offering them on the Voyageur II on Fridays only beginning on 13 June 2008 and continuing through 5 September 2008. With such a limited day trip schedule the seats will fill quickly, plan and book early for best choice.
